Dr. Samantha Basile

Dr. Samantha Basile coordinates the USGCRP Carbon Cycle Interagency Working Group to reinforce connections across science sub-fields and enhance federal collaboration in areas of rapidly expanding research. She recently served as Senior Staff Scientist for the National Climate Assessment team. Her background expertise is in climate science, with previous projects ranging from Great Lakes precipitation and harmful algal blooms to carbon dioxide release from microbial activity in soils.
Prior to joining the NCA team, Samantha worked as a Climatologist for the Great Lakes Integrated Sciences and Assessments Program in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She later served as a Mirzayan Science & Technology Policy Fellow for the Board on Atmospheric Sciences and Climate at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine in Washington, D.C. She has also led interdisciplinary efforts on science communication and op-ed writing.
Samantha received an M.Eng. (Applied Climate), M.S. (Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Space Sciences), and Ph.D. (Climate and Space Sciences and Engineering) from the University of Michigan. She completed a B.S. in Atmospheric Science at the University of Albany, State University of New York.
