Dr. David Reidmiller serves as Director of the Fourth National Climate Assessment. He is on detail from the U.S. Geological Survey.

Prior to joining USGCRP, David was the Chief Climate Scientist and Lead Climate Technology Negotiator at the U.S. Department of State (DOS), where he coordinated the engagement of the U.S. in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, led U.S. negotiations related to science and technology in the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, and directed the Department's efforts in USGCRP. He initially joined DOS in 2011 as an AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellow.

Before his time with DOS, David was an AAAS Congressional Science & Technology Policy Fellow in the U.S. Senate, where he focused on energy-related matters. He also served as a Mirzayan Fellow at the National Academy of Sciences, where he advanced the work of the Board on Atmospheric Sciences and Climate and the Polar Research Board. David completed his Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Washington in 2010. He also holds a B.A. in Chemistry from Colgate University.
