Seeking Expert Reviewers for the World Ocean Assessment

Humpback whale

The Department of State, in coordination with the National Ocean Council, is requesting expert reviewers for the draft World Ocean Assessment (WOA). The WOA is a United Nations effort to assess and report on the state of the marine environment, and is organized around four main themes:

  • the marine environment and understanding of the ocean's role in the global integrated Earth system
  • food security and food safety
  • human activities that influence the ocean or are influenced by the ocean
  • marine biological diversity

Experts interested in reviewing can register at review.globalchange.gov. The draft is expected to be available through that site in early October.
