Global Change Information System Lead

As Global Change Information System (GCIS) Lead, Amrutha Elamparuthy imports and organizes scientific data, inputs and manages GCIS content, and develops semantic web projects. She helps to shape requirements by working with non-technical stakeholders and communicating with a large multi-agency team.

Prior to joining USCGRP, Amrutha served as a GIS Data Visualization Specialist with HIP Consult Inc., where she mapped Africa’s fiber optic network by collecting data from public sources to aid African development. She worked as GIS Analyst and Database Developer at iMMAP, where she published situation reports on Iraq and Syria. She also held an Adjunct lectureship at Bronx Community College. Previous to that, she served as an intern at the Glaciology laboratory in the School of Environmental Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University, where she analyzed decadal changes in the volume of the glaciers in the Indian Himalayas.

Amrutha holds a B.Tech (Bachelor of Technology) in Geotechnology and Geoinformatics from Bharathidasan University, and an M.P.S. (Master of Professional Studies) in Geographic Information Systems from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
