Ever since the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) was entered into force in 1994, the Conferences of the Parties (COP) have been meeting annually to assess progress in dealing with climate change, and since 2005, have been meeting in conjunction with the Meetings of the Parties of the Kyoto Protocol (MOP), which gather for the purposes of evaluating signatory country progress in adhering to the protocol. In 2009, the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP-15) was held on December 7-18 in Copenhagen, Denmark.

 

Each year, the USGCRP agencies coordinate to produce materials and host side events that accompany the US Delegation. In 2009, these included events such as:

  • Science on a Sphere (NOAA and NASA)

  • the critical role of climate literacy (NOAA, NASA, NSF)

  • sustainable urban transportation (EPA, DOT)

  • the Wildlands and Wildlife educators toolkit (several led by EPA)

  • U.S. adaptation solutions (DOI, EPA, NOAA)
