Ever since the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) was entered into force in 1994, the Conferences of the Parties (COP) have been meeting annually to assess progress in dealing with climate change, and since 2005, have been meeting in conjunction with the Meetings of the Parties of the Kyoto Protocol (MOP), which gather for the purposes of evaluating signatory country progress in adhering to the protocol. In 2009, the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP-15) was held on December 7-18 in Copenhagen, Denmark.
