Engaging Stakeholders
The USGCRP is dedicated to engaging stakeholders in strategic planning efforts. Our community outreach activities created a dialogue with our stakeholders through various communication channels, such as opportunities for interagency collaboration, town hall meetings, public presentations and listening sessions. These channels alongside our 60 day public comment period enabled the program to incorporate stakeholder input int the process of drafting this decadal plan.
In addition, we welcome input - particularly on the future direction of USGCRP and on the climate information you need and use. Please send your comments to input@usgcrp.gov.
Listening Sessions
The Program undertook a series of "listening sessions" with a variety of stakeholder groups around the country to gain a better understanding of the emerging needs for climate information and ways in which Federal research might be shaped to meet those needs. The 2009-2010 listening sessions captured our stakeholders’ needs and provided USGCRP with valuable insight to help drive our strategic planning efforts. We held these sessions at several locations around the country as stand-alone meetings or in conjunction with a professional society conference or sector-related meetings.
At these listening sessions, representatives from USCGRP provided a short overview of the current program’s structure and activities, including the development of the strategic plan, and then opened the floor for discussion and comments about Federal climate change research. At each session, USGCRP also encouraged participants to continue to provide comments and input about USGCRP activities beyond the listening session.
The USGCRP Office provided a report from each listening session, including a summary of common themes. Click on the button below to view the list of the listening sessions:

Town Hall Presentations
The USGCRP presented at various Town Hall in 2010 and 2011 to provide updates on the development and content of the Strategic Plan. These updates often communicated the mechanisms for providing input to the process of strategic planning. The Town Halls also gave audiences the opportunity to engage USGCRP staff in an open discussion on the Program and its initiatives.
Public Comments
On September 30, 2011, the public comment period opened for the U.S. Global Change Research Program’s (USGCRP) Strategic Plan. The public comment period was open for 60 days ending on November 29, 2011. View the Federal Notice here.
National Academy Reports
The USGCRP also engaged the scientific community during the process of developing the Strategic Plan for 2012-2021. The program and its member departments and agencies commissioned a number of reports from the NRC to help guide it in its current activities and future planning.
