Since the inception of the USGCRP thirteen participating agencies have coordinated their work through Interagency Working Groups (IWGs) that span a wide range of interconnected issues of climate and global change. The IWGs have addressed major components of the Earth’s environmental and human systems, as well as cross-disciplinary approaches for addressing issues under the purview of the USGCRP. The IWGs are composed of representatives from federal departments and agencies responsible for activities in each area. The IWGs are overseen by the Subcommittee on Global Change Research. The following working groups have historically existed within the predecessor to the new USGCRP, the CCSP, and many still function to provide support across the organization. However, the USGCRP is reorganizing to focus on societal benefits areas, and many of these groups are reforming to fit within the mission of the new program.
